Storms PDF Print E-mail

What a joy for us to see 21 people this month stand and publically declare their faith in Jesus Christ, and follow Jesus’ mandate and example, by being baptized.  I was nervous about the weather the week of the baptism,(it was overcast and threatening rain), and thought that maybe we needed to postpone the baptisms until the next Sunday. However, Pastor Steve Caldwell reminded me of Jesus ability to calm the storm. As you might remember from scripture the disciples were on a boat with Jesus crossing a lake. A storm came up and the disciples thought they were going to drown until Jesus calmed the storm. He then asked them ‘where is your faith?’ That's what I thought when Pastor Steve reminded me of this scripture, Tom where is your faith?  It was awesome the morning of the baptisms to wake up to a beautiful spring day! We serve an awesome God and if there are storms raging in your life look to Jesus the one who will calm your storm also!
God bless each of you, it is a joy for us to serve you.

Someone once wrote, “You will never truly know faith, yourself and God until you have been tested by adversity.”
I remember a time in my life when I felt totally incapacitated at the hands of adversity. My Father was murdered when I was 27 years old. I was being groomed to take over the family business. At that time in my life, everything just came to a standstill. My world was totally rocked.

Recently, I was at Starbucks –ordering one of those nice, steaming caffeinated beverages with a little sleeve. After I placed my order I told the barista thank you and God bless you.  “You aren’t one of those born-again Christian types, are you?” Let’s be honest.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my time as a Christian, it’s this: more often that not when you get asked a question like this, the asker has a specific concept of what “one of those types” is like, and more often than not, their vision is nothing we would want to be as followers of Jesus.

I will not." Those are God’s words in Hebrews 13:5. What is it that He will not do? When I looked up that passage in my Amplified Bible, I was struck by the force of this verse.

Listen:
"Let your character be free from love of money…
and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have];
for He Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support.
[I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let you down (relax my hold on you)[Assuredly not!]"

He is Good PDF Print E-mail

I was recently reminded by a friend of the greatness and the goodness of God as revealed in the book of Exodus.

With the burning bush, the awesome Name of “Yahweh,” the ten plagues that revealed God’s greatness to Egypt, Israel, and every so-called Egyptian god, and then the phenomenal parting of the Red Sea – not to mention manna from heaven and water from rocks – Exodus certainly showcases God’s greatness.

But when Moses asks God to “show me Your glory,” God responds in Exodus 33:19, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you…”
